The book offers comprehensive coverage on novel manifestations of known infections, novel infections with documented ophthalmic involvement, and the growing issue of resistance among certain infections. Filling a much-needed gap in current literary offerings, chapters approach ophthalmic manifestations of infectious disease from a novel perspective. Each chapter is co-written by an ophthalmologist and an infectious disease specialist to provide multidisciplinary insight. This unique analysis of infectious disease enhances the ability of ophthalmologists and infectious disease specialists to identify the manifold manifestations of both common and rare infections in the eye. Chapters begin with a general introduction, and each contain an Infectious Disease section, along with an Ophthalmology section. The book covers infections such as viral retinitis, fungal infections, syphilis, tuberculosis, vector-borne illnesses, and delve into rarer conditions such as unusual post-operative infections. Concise and practical, Emerging Ocular Infection will be of use to ID specialists, and ophthalmologists alike.

The aim of this Research Topic was to offer an interdisciplinary forum for researchers interested in the interplay of face, eye gaze, and body perception in the understanding of others, with an emphasis on behavioural and neural processing. The papers included in this topic come from cognitive, neuroscience and social psychology perspectives and shed new light on how facial and body cues interact with each other and with social, ecological and contextual factors (such as for example social identification and group membership) to form a unified representation that can guide our perceptions and responses to other people. Altogether, they provide an up-to-date picture of advances in this fascinating research field.

Atypical myopathy is the term referring to the intoxication resulting from the ingestion of the environmental toxin, hypoglycin A. This illness, often lethal, affects grazing equids on pasture where the surroundings contain sycamore maple trees. The metabolite of hypoglycin A causes severe destruction in postural, respiratory and cardiac muscles. Hypoglycin A and its metabolite are detected in equids presenting the disease’s clinical signs. Both are eliminated by renal excretion and can be detected in the urine as well. In both human and small animal medicine, renal replacement therapy by dialysis has been used for decades as a treatment in case of acute renal failure and various toxicities. However, few studies have investigated this subject in horses. The investigation of the different dialysis properties and their applications to horses and atypical myopathy provide favorable elements for using dialysis in equids as well as in the treatment of atypical myopathy to eliminate the toxin and its metabolite. Complementary studies carried out on these molecules ‘properties along with an in vitro model could enable confirmation of this allegation.
