Abstract

Ce travail découle d’une préoccupation grandissante dans le domaine du patrimoine : les conséquences du dérèglement climatique sur les biens historiques. Lors de sa 20ème Assemblée générale, les membres de l’ICOMOS ont massivement voté pour reconnaître l’urgence climatique et écologique et les dangers qui pèsent sur le patrimoine. Les parcs et jardins historiques sont particulièrement sensibles à ces bouleversements. La vulnérabilité de ces monuments hérités de l’histoire, complexes et fragiles, aggrave l’enjeu du dérèglement climatique. Quel avenir pour ces ensembles dont la construction repose sur l’emploi du végétal pour qui le climat est l’élément le plus limitant ? 
Ce travail cherche à démontrer les impacts du dérèglement climatique (actuels et futurs) sur le patrimoine végétal des parcs et jardins historiques. La complexité et la fragilité des jardins historiques sont démontrées à travers une analyse approfondie de 3 cas d’étude. La méthodologie appliquée ici s’inspire librement de la structure employée dans des plans de gestion existants (Domaine de Sceaux et de la Vallée aux Loups) sur laquelle s’ajoute la définition d’un scénario climatique. 
L’arbre est l’élément étudié dans ce travail. Les analyses se concentreront ensuite sur les structures végétales arborées relevées sur les cas d’étude. L’objectif de cette démarche est de poser un diagnostic sur la situation actuelle et future du patrimoine végétal arboré des parcs et jardins historiques. La connaissance approfondie de ces milieux donne lieu à l’identification des potentiels internes et externes dont s’inspirent les propositions formulées. L’objectif de ces dernières est de mettre en place le processus d’adaptation et de conservation du patrimoine végétal sous la menace du dérèglement climatique tout en encourager la résilience de ces milieux. Ainsi, la finalité de ce travail réside dans l’élaboration d’un outil méthodologique que les gestionnaires de parc et jardin peuvent réutiliser sur leur domaine, adapter, rediscuter et enrichir par leur expérience. Cet outil est présenté sous forme d’un document d’orientations synthétique et concis. This work derives from a growing concern in the field of heritage: the consequences of climate change on historic properties. At its 20th General Assembly, ICOMOS members voted massively to recognise the climatic and ecological urgency and the dangers to heritage. Historic parks and gardens are particularly sensitive to these disturbances. The vulnerability of these complex and fragile monuments inherited from history aggravates the challenge of climate change. What is the future for these complexes, whose construction is based on the use of plants for which the climate is the most limiting element? 
This work seeks to demonstrate the impacts of climate change (current and future) on the plant heritage of historic parks and gardens. The complexity and fragility of historic gardens are demonstrated through an extensive analysis of 3 case studies. The methodology applied here is loosely based on the structure used in existing management plans (Domaine de Sceaux and Vallée aux Loups) to which is added the definition of a climate scenario. 
The tree is the element studied in this work. The analyses will then focus on the tree-like plant structures found in the case studies. The objective of this approach is to make a diagnosis of the current and future situation of the tree-planted heritage of historic parks and gardens. In-depth knowledge of these environments gives rise to the identification of internal and external potentials from which the proposals formulated are based.The objective of the latter is to set up the process of adaptation and conservation of the plant heritage under the threat of climate change while encouraging the resilience of these environments. Thus, the aim of this work lies in the development of a methodological tool that park and garden managers can reuse on their estate, adapt, rediscuss and enrich with their experience. This tool is presented in the form of a synthetic and concise guidance document.

This book was inspired by the Hydrology–H030 Session of the 2019 AGU (America Geophysical Union) Fall Meeting. In recent years, simulating potential future vulnerability and sustainability of water resources due to climate change are mainly focused on global and regional scale watersheds by using climate change scenarios. These scenarios may have low resolution and may not be accurate for local watersheds. This book addresses the impacts of climate change upon water quantity and quality at small scale watersheds. Emphases are on climate-induced water resource vulnerabilities (e.g., flood, drought, groundwater depletion, evapotranspiration, and water pollution) and methodologies (e.g., computer modeling, field measurement, and management practice) employed to mitigation and adapt climate change impacts on water resources. Application implications to local water resource management are also discussed in this book.
