More than the usual academic textbook, the present volume presents sociology as terrain that one can virtually traverse and experience. Each version of the sociological imagination captured by the chapter essays takes the readers to the realm of the taken-for-granted (such as zoological collections, food, education, entrepreneurship, religious participation, etc.) and the extraordinary (the likes of organizational fraud, climate change, labour relations, multiple modernities, etc.) - altogether presumed to be problematic and yet possible. Using the sociological perspective as the frame of reference, the readers are invited to interrogate the realities and trends which their social worlds relentlessly create for them, allowing them in return, to discover their unique locations in their cultures' social map.

The book was adapted from an investigation that was presented to the National University of the Altiplano (UNA). The objective was to determine the relationship between perceptions about the problem of environmental pollution and environmental attitudes in students of the Faculty of Educational Sciences (FCEDUC) of UNA Puno, Peru. The research method was the quantitative approach, the non-experimental type and the design was correlational. For this purpose, the population was made up of 778 students, with an intentional sample of 113 students. The data collection techniques were the evaluation technique and the Likert-type attitude test, the instruments being the test of perceptions of environmental pollution and the Likert scale of attitudes. The statistical design that was applied was the chi square (X2) for the hypothesis test. The results show that there is a significant relationship between the study variables of perceptions with attitudes about environmental problems according to the inferential statistics that was X2 = 62.534. It was concluded that the problem of environmental pollution is the task of all citizens to put into practice the care and preservation of the environment with attitudes that help not to contaminate nature.

Glavni cilj knjige je predstaviti način upravljanja s kulturnimi vrednotami v lokalni skupnosti. Z njo želimo sprožiti nove razvojne impulze in hkrati prispevati k ohranjanju kulture in opolnemočenja lokalne skupnosti.

This book follows the successful titles “The Colourful and the Green: Chapters on Voluntary Simplicity” and “The Half-Hearted and the Hesitant: Chapters on Ecological Luxury.” The author poses the question of why, at a time of continuing devastation of nature, people’s interest in nature conservation has been decreasing. Are the media to blame or is our numbness toward ecological problems rooted in our mental makeup that tends to supress unpleasant realities? The author also wants to find out why some people have remained faithful to nature. To get to the answers, she applies sociological, philosophical, psychological, and theological perspectives. An unexpected question that may surprise some readers then becomes: Actually, why should we protect nature when it can take care of itself? It is not weak; it is strong and cruel. Librová’s students Vojtěch Pelikán, Lucie Galčanová, and Lukáš Kala interview the children of “the Colourful,” too: have they inherited their parents’ modest lifestyle?

The content analysis of the ads proved to be very interesting at many different levels. Firstly, it was proved that the use of obvious forms of greenwashing in the Trends Tendances magazine decreased from 2009 to 2019. The manufacturers probably found out that obvious forms of greenwashing could be detected by the consumers and this could be penalizing for a company. Therefore, instead of using obvious claims, they switched to using another form of greenwashing called executional greenwashing. This is simply the use of nature-evoking imagery in the ads. It is in 2019 that the least greenwashing was seen on average, but more than half of the ads featured a picture evoking nature. Such claims are hardly detectable for the consumers and therefore the manufacturers have less chances to have to deal with the undesirable consequences of it. However, instead of trying to find new ways of misleading the consumers, the manufacturers should work on more environmental-conscious solutions. Indeed with the future EU regulations about transportation coming, some manufacturers have a lot to improve to meet those requirements. Then, the cars promoted in that magazine showed to be always more polluting than the EU targets in place or to be achieved at that time. Since the target group of the magazine is economic actors, the manufacturers should promote the electric vehicles way more since those people are the ones who can benefit from tax deductions when buying such a vehicle. Finally, from an ethical point of view, trying to mislead the consumers is not really considered as a good thing. Therefore, the manufacturers should try being honest and transparent about their products. Indeed the costs of misleading the consumers usually overcome the marketing benefits of using such strategies. Executional greenwashing may work well now but one has to consider the long-term implications that its use can have.

The Handbook of Applied System Science is organized around both methodological approaches in systems science, and the substantive topic to which these approaches have been applied. The volume begins with an essay that introduces three system science methods: agent-based modeling, system dynamics, and network analysis. The remainder of the volume is organized around three broad topics: (1) health and human development, (2) environment and sustainability, and (3) communities and social change. Each part begins with a brief introductory essay, and includes nine chapters that demonstrate the application of system science methods to address research questions in these areas. This handbook will be useful for work in Public Health, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Political Science, Environmental Studies, Urban Studies, and Psychology.
