Automatisatie is een uitgave voor een nieuw vak in de derde graad van de studierichting Elektrische Installatietechnieken. In deze uitgave komen de eerste twee domeinen van het nieuwe vak aan bod: Digitale Technieken en Programmeerbare sturing. Alhoewel het handboek in de eerste plaats geschreven is i.f.v. de leerlingen Elektrische Installatietechnieken, kan het ook gebruikt worden in richtingen waarin Automatisatie en PLC-technieken op het programma staan, zoals: Elektro-Mechanica, Elektriciteit-Elektronica. Het concept speelt in op Begeleid Zelfstandig Leren en bevat verschillende verwerkingsvormen, wat maakt dat deze methode bruikbaar is voor verschillende leer- en onderwijsvormen en dus ook voor zelfstudie en bedrijfsopleidingen.. Het startniveau is vrij eenvoudig en de moeilijkheidsgraad van de leerstof evolueert geleidelijk. Hierdoor is het mogelijk dat enerzijds de sterkere en/of vluggere leerlingen vrij vlot de leerstof kunnen verwerken. Anderzijds is de methode ook haalbaar voor leerlingen van een beroepsafdeling, die eveneens op hun eigen tempo de leerstof kunnen verwerken
