This volume aims to investigate, with an interdisciplinary approach, how legal property regimes, land law and land registration systems are intertwined with economic, social, and political spheres; to analyse the social functions and legal and political implications of various land registration systems in different contexts and how, for example, they operated in a colonial framework; to scrutinise the relations between politics and property, as well as the transformation of the property concept, in its meaning and function.

Cerca de Loma Larga, un poblado teenek de la Huasteca veracruzana se eleva un cerro en donde antes, se dice, vivía el Trueno pero que se fue a otro lugar porque no quería segur cerca de quienes fueron llegando a establecerse en los alrededores. El Trueno, el dios mesoamericano del viento y de la lluvia, ya no está entre los teenek de loma Larga, pero su presencia permanece viva en la memoria de este grupo indígena a pesar de la acción “civilizadora” que ha experimentado desde la conquista. “El Trueno ya no vive aquí es una aserción indígena que refleja un antiguo sistema de representación así como un proceso moderno de aculturación. Dicho enunciado forma la trama de este libro que analiza las representaciones simbólicas teenek influidas por el proceso de los cambios culturales. A través del examen de las realidades y concepciones del mundo y del microcosmos indígena frente a las de la sociedad global, Anath Ariel de Vidas desarrolla paralelamente un estudio etnográfico de la comunidad y un planteamiento teórico acerca del problema fundamental de la elaboración de la identidad étnica teenek actual. Why are house prices in many advanced economies rising faster than incomes? Why isn't land and location taught or seen as important in modern economics? What is the relationship between the financial system and land? In this accessible but provocative guide to the economics of land and housing, the authors reveal how many of the key challenges facing modern economies - including housing crises, financial instability and growing inequalities - are intimately tied to the land economy. Looking at the ways in which discussions of land have been routinely excluded from both housing policy and economic theory, the authors show that in order to tackle these increasingly pressing issues a major rethink by both politicians and economists is required.
